Draft Shirley Franklin
I was excited to receive the link to a petition to draft former Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin to serve as Georgia Democratic Party Chair.
Just one person's observation, but I believe the recent elections is a definitive repudiation of the Blue Dog Democrat philosophy and strategy of ever moving right. The decimation of the Georgia Democratic office holders by electoral defeat and party switching leaves us with an opportunity to now form a strong liberal/progressive grassroots Democratic Party.
From what I know of Shirley Franklin plus her national prominence I currently believe to have her as our chair would be a good beginning.
Below is a copy of their email with link to the petition. It is very simple to do and there is a list of those who have already signed.
Six reasons to draft Shirley Franklin Chair of Democratic Party of Georgia ...
1. Name recognition:
As Mayor of Atlanta, Shirley was recognized nationally as an effective leader. She outranks all opposition, particularly the Republican counterpart.
2. Appeal:
Shirley is bright, energetic and positive, all important traits for leadership positions.
3. Access:
As a popular National figure, she has access and influence at the White House and the Democratic National Committee. BIG ASSETS for the Democratic Party of Georgia.
4. Money $$$$:
Shirley, as a State and National figure, brings knowledge and contacts for raising funds $$$ - a must in modern politics.
5. Experience:
Decisive leader of the largest city in the South.
6. Youth:
6. Youth:
Young in heart and mind, Shirley understands that tradition feels good, but does not necessarily motivate younger adults. Motivate the young people, and the Tea Party will never know what hit them.
Georgia Democrats are desperate for motivation.
