About Talking Stick

I am a 10 plus years retired physician living in the Ninth District of North Georgia. The first 15 years of my medical work was as an academic; researcher, teacher, and clinician in pediatric oncology. This was at the time of the beginning of the work in the multidiscplinary approach to developing curative cancer treatments. My discipline was chemotherapy. Much but not all of my experience applies today. Fast forward to private practice in oncology and later psychaitry.

Philosophically I have always carried the seeds of pacifism which germinated into a passion with the lead up to the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. In fact I do not see how any physician can be other than a pacifist. Other areas of strong interest and some activism include civil liberties, ours and theirs, the environment, economic fairness and health care of course.

Recently I have re-entered the medical arena, this time as a cancer patient and of course have experiences similar to so many of you on Firedoglake have shared.

Politically I was a Dean supporter and this go around Obama. As any who have read my posts can see I am becoming increasingly disppointed in Obama in particular in rhe areas of civil liberties and health care. I have great frustration that it is seeming the Democratic Party as led by Obama and Emanuel is losing a great opportunity to lead a resurgance of true democracy.
